Patrick Cripps still remembers attending boarding school in Western Australia. Cripps is a professional Australian rules footballer who won his first Brownlow Medal in 2022.

He is the first member of the Blues to win the Brownlow since former captain Chris Judd in 2010. Cripps celebrated his win with his parents after being awarded the 2022 Brownlow Medal.

He has won the John Nicholls Medal three times, the first of which he received in 2015. He has also been named to three All-Australian teams.

The Carlton Football Club chose Cripps in the opening round of the 2013 AFL National Draft. He made his senior debut against Melbourne in Round 4, 2014, but only appeared in three games that year due to injury.

Patrick was born in Perth but later moved at an early age to Northampton, a small farming community in Western Australia's Mid West.

Cripps, who quickly established himself as a powerful key-forward/ruck option out of Western Australia, was one of the top prospects to go undrafted in last week's National and Rookie Drafts.

The 19-year-old was able to impress recruiters in his 12-game stint with the Sharks in 2021 after recovering from an ACL injury suffered the previous season, averaging 15.7 disposals and 4.2 marks per game in addition to 16 goals for the season.

Patrick Cripps, the captain of Carlton, has been awarded the 2022 Brownlow Medal. When the Blues lost against Collingwood in round 23 of the season, Cripps received the maximum three votes and won the medal.

He had a strong start, taking the lead with 16 votes after round eight, and flipped the vote in round 20, collecting three votes in Carlton's defeat to Adelaide with a career-high 41 disposals.

He was almost disqualified from receiving the medal after receiving a two-match suspension for a high bump on Brisbane's Callum Ah Chee in round 21. However, Cripps was able to successfully challenge the suspension in a drawn-out Tribunal hearing.

He received his third All-Australian blazer after averaging 28.1 disposals, with his 7.7 clearances and 15.3 contested possessions both ranking third in the AFL this season.

Cripps also discussed his professional low point, which occurred after Brendon Bolton was fired as coach after round 11 of 2019 and caused him to realize the need for mental preparation.
